Welcome back Max-a-Millionaires to a Friday edition of WNBA best bets and analysis. Before the league goes on its Olympic hiatus, lets try and cash a few bets. I've got two games I am targeting with a play on the total, along with a player prop so let's dive in.
For our first play I am looking to take the under in this matchup between the Storm and the Lynx. The first thing that stood out to me is their solid defensive metrics.
Storm are 3rd in Adj SQ DEF
Lynx are 6th in Adj SQ DEF
Adjusted ShotQuality Defense measures a teams overall capabilities on defense. Both these squads are in the top half of the league while the Storm have solidified themselves as one of the best defensive squads.
One of the advantages of using ShotQuality, is you can expand into the specifics of those overall defensive ratings. One of these areas they excel in is defensive shot selection.
Storm are 3rd in Defensive Shot Selection
Lynx are 2nd in Defensive Shot Selection
ShotQuality Defensive Shot Selection grades a team's defense based on the quality of shots allowed. These teams rank highly in that category telling us that they don't allow a lot of quality shots which is always good news when betting an under.
Another specific defensive category they grade well in is the defensive rim and 3 SQ PPP.
Storm are 2nd in Rim & 3 SQ DEF
Lynx are 4th in Rim & 3 SQ DEF
This stat grades each team on their ability to defend shots at the rim and from deep. This is important as these are considered the highest valued shots in basketball. So not only do they excel at not allowing quality shots (SQ Shot Selection) but they are great at not allowing quality attempts from these high value shots (Rim & 3 SQ DEF).
Let's bet on those quality defensive metrics and take the under here in this matchup.
BET: STORM vs LYNX UNDER 153.5
Next up on the card I am looking to Caitlin Clark for a prop. Clark has been on an absolute terror in her recent games. Specifically, she has been flying over her assist numbers as she continues to get more comfortable running the point in the WNBA.
Outlined in the image above, Clark has gone over her assist prop in 4 straight games as she has recorded 12, 11, 13 and 13 dimes. Included in that stretch was a game against the Mercury where she had 12 assists.
I think she reaches double digit assists again here as the Mercury shouldn't be too tough of a matchup.
Mercury are 9th in Adj SQ DEF
Mercury are 10th in Rim Defense
Overall, the Mercury have struggled defensively and specifically on the interior. This should help open things up for Clark and give her opportunities to find teammates inside for high quality attempts so let's take the over on her assist prop.
BET: CLARK OVER 9.5 ASSISTS (-116)
